Who on earth?

Hi and welcome to my blog.

I’m Cat and I’ve just moved to beautiful Wiltshire, down in the South of England, after seven wonderful years living in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was in California that the running bug bit so I’m really excited to explore my new world in my running shoes. I’m looking forward to running new trails and new roads, to joining a running club and hopefully making some running buddies, to training hard and racing my socks off and to becoming part of the running community in our new home.

I’m originally from Wiltshire, so this is kind of a homecoming, although the Marlborough area, where we’ve moved to, is new to me – we currently have no friends! I’m working on that! It’s strange how new and different my home-county feels to me this time around. There’s a quote that says ‘The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave and it feels even better to come back’. I didn’t expect it to be true, but so far, I think it is!

I’m married to the Husband who is a sometime triathlete, and we have a lovely son, The Dude, and a wonderful step-son, Big Brother.  I’m a preschool teacher – it took me 40 years to find my perfect job! I just need to work out now how I can keep teaching here in the UK. I also have a big ginger cat, Charlie, who I adore!

The Dude is a little bigger these days but the cat is still as gorgeous!

When I’m not running, I love cycling, hiking, camping, reading, making soup (soooooup!), eating cake, skiing, kayaking, going to church and hanging out with my family.  I really love Instagram too – I’m CathryntheBrit .

Hope you’ll join me as a get back to my roots as a Wiltshire Girl…but this time, on the run!

Love your blog! So glad you commented on mine so I could come check you out:). I am glad you like the U.S and Cali. I am a huge fan of San Fran and am thinking next July I am going to do the San Fran marathon for my 30th bday.

Thanks for the compliments! You should def do SF although it’s hilly so it’s not PR material. It is a great race though and the city is so fab!! It’s June 16th next year though…not sure how that fits in with your birthday!

I love touring atop the saddle of a bike! Where have you toured?

    1. Cathryn says:

Golly I miss it!! We’ve mainly toured in Europe, with a little jaunt in Florida and two weeks in India. We’re hoping to re-start our touring this summer!!!

      1. Al says:

Oh wow! Where did you go in India? I would love to take my bike there one day.

      2. Cathryn says:

We toured in a group actually – we felt India was a little beyond our independent-travel capabilities. We had two weeks in Rajasthan and we loved it!!! Go, it’s a great place to tour. Nothing like cycling past an elephant to make you grin.

    1. Cathryn says:

Yes, I do – maybe not yearly but every year or two. Generally I get an echo, or an MRI.

I was searching for running events in the Netherlands and found your post you wrote about it. Funnily enough, I’m an American living and running in England right now and I have a fainting disorder tied to my heart. Thank you for the great post on running in the Netherlands!

    1. Cathryn says:

Oh my word, we’re basically reverse best-friends! Glad the Netherlands post helped you! Have a great time there. Have a cup of tea for me x
