Bits and bobs

I don’t know about you, but Holiday Weekends really throw me off-balance! I’m never entirely sure what day it is for the rest of the week!! I do know that this week is special because it’s the Dude’s last EVER week at pre-school – how on earth did that happen? I’ll think about that on Friday, I’m not ready for that quite yet!!

I do have some bits and bobs to tell you.

French running girls are great

Running The World makes me both happy and frustrated. No matter how much I love doing these posts (and I do, I LOVE working on them), I basically spend the entire week desperate to book a plane ticket to the latest place I’ve featured…New Zealand and South Africa were calling my name particularly badly. However, one of the best things is getting to know the amazing ladies that I’ve interviewed so far. They are all so bright and clever and ballsy and fabulous. (Wait till you meet tomorrow’s amazing interviewees, I am so excited about it).

I explained  last Wednesday how I met Marjolaine, my French interviewee and how she’d become a great online running buddy. Well, on Saturday I got to meet her in real life, as she and her husband left SoCal and came up to the Bay Area to hike. They very kindly diverted to Berkeley, where we met up in a park and we got on like a house on fire, she’s just ace!! It’s always kind of weird, meeting someone you know online, but very quickly it stopped being weird and was just great! She brought a giant bag of madeleines for me the Dude, which basically won his heart.

So if you haven’t read her blog yet…DO. It’s available in English and French and this girl rocks!! She is also fast.

Somehow, after making Marjolaine's husband take 5 photos of us, this was the only one we were happy with

We made Marjolaine’s ever-so-patient husband take at least 5 photos of us and this was the only one we were both happy with. You can only imagine how excellent the other ones were.

It’s Relay Year

I’ve been dying to do a relay for a few years now. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea (I don’t know if it will be mine) but I’m dying to do one. And somehow I’m now doing two – the Wild West Relay in Colorado in August and BOOMSHAKALAKA,  Ragnar Napa Valley in September with some awesome local runners…Jen, BT, Amanda, her husband, Sonia, Brianna, Jennifer, Jess and my very own IronHusband! There’s still space on the team if you fancy it 🙂 We start in SF and end in Wine Country. Explain to me how that won’t be great!!

I did some running

Nothing overly exciting…12 miles on Friday and 6 miles this morning. Nothing to get you all excited but some solid miles. I’ve run 98 miles of my 120 mile May goal and am confident of hitting the target, unless there’s a disaster!

I nearly bought a Garmin 10…

…but the Husband insists I get a new battery for his 10-year-old Timex thing first to see if that does the trick. He’s so sensible.

We made the most of the holiday weekend!

Cue the slide show.

IronHusband teaches Dude and Dude’s friend to play tennis. Like herding puppies.
cliff house
I crossed the Cliff House off my SF bucket list
SF San Francisco beach
Ocean beach looked spectacular in the sunshine
Hiked a little stretch of Land’s End trail with the Dude
Green Apple Books
Crossed Green Apple Books off my SF bucket list. One of the best second-hand bookshops I’ve ever been to.

(I got a book here that I’ve been hunting down for ten years!)

Paddled at Baker Beach – the view, people!

And that’s it, folks.

      yay, I’ll email you later!

  2. 🙂 It was such a pleasure to meet you and your boys! My lucky charm is so cute 😉 And, really, I wasn’t concerned at all about you. I knew, from the way you speak here that you were great. Mathieu told me, during the week-end, that if we were living closer it would be sure you and I would be up for lots of things and he wouldn’t see me so much anymore. You are so dynamic and active. And I just need a little push to be like that too and forget about all these little stupid fears I have.

That is funny to see your pictures of Monday. I have quite the same but from the other side of the bridge 🙂

Thank you for your lovely words!! The Husband said the same as yours…that it was a pity we lived so far apart as otherwise we’d be great friends. So sad you’re such a long way away. It was SO lovely to meet you and your Playboy. Come up here and run (or hike or hang out) ANY time, we would love to have you, especially if you bring madeleines! xxx

Looks like you had quite an excitement-filled weekend! I have to admit that when I first saw the title, I thought it said “Bits and Boobs”. Hahaha!

    1. Cathryn says:

I checked it about a million times and I still think it says boobs when I read it. I think ‘bits and boobs’ would be a splendid title for a very different blog post.

Such gorgeous weather lately! Looks like you were able to make the best of it! 🙂

  5. I feel like I need you to make me a must-see/do list for living in this area. You are always posting the most fabulous photos from places I didn’t even know existed out here!!!

    1. Cathryn says:

      Thank you 😉

When I moved here, I did just that…made a list of all the places I wanted to visit and ticked them off, one by one. It was a great way to get to know the Bay Area. I still have that list on my phone and I add to it and delete things regularly, it’s def worth doing! Green Apple Books was AMAZING though, if you like second hand book shops!
