Tomorrow is race day! Kind of. It’s the Pacifica Trail Half-Marathon.
I’m REALLY excited about running in Pacifica, I’ve wanted to run there for ages. Pacifica is a little town next to the ocean just south of San Francisco and they have some amazing hills there. I was at a park there this week and got a glimpse of the aforementioned hills and I kind of quaked inside – they are bigger than I anticipated.
If I’m honest, I’d like a time of roughly 2.30 but the course is hard (up a mountain, down a mountain, up another mountain and back down) so I have no idea if this is achievable or not. My basic plan is just to run the race for fun, to explore, to check out new trails, to get some good photos and to come away happy, buzzing and uninjured!
This is what this week’s training looked like:
Friday: 12 hilly miles.
Saturday: 2.5 miles easy hiking in the drizzle.
Sunday: 2.5 easy miles
This was supposed to be 4 miles of family running – the Husband and I running, the Dude cycling. However it was the Dude’s first opportunity to ride into a headwind. It turns out he’s not a fan of headwind cycling and all kinds of dramas ensued, so I had to cut it short. On the way back, it became apparent he IS a fan of tailwinds!
Tuesday: 2 miles treadmill walking
Wednesday: 6 mile tempo run
A good run. Same structure as last week (M1 Warm-Up, M2,3,4 – tempo, M5 recovery, M6 – tempo) and my tempo miles averaged 8.12. Really delighted with this!!
No yoga this week – the Husband has been away so I filled my Wednesday night with friends, soup, dessert and wine.
Thursday: 4 miles easy cycling with the Dude
So that’s it for the week. Bay Breeze is 3 weeks away. So far, so good. Unless I twist my ankle again! I have a feeling that next week is New Running Shoes week, which I love and dread in equal measure. We’ll see.
