It has been a BUSY week here, primarily because our favourite little person turned 4 on Wednesday, which led to much planning, organising and excitement. His party is Friday and then it’ll be over for another year. Suddenly very grateful we only have one child and I don’t have to do this multiple times a year. But you know, all the hard work is totally worth it when you get faces like this when presents are spotted.
Anyway. Sunday is the ‘Berkeley Half’ 10k and as you know, I’m gunning for a PR. I actually don’t know what my current 10k PR is. In my First Running Career, it was something like 58 minutes. And I haven’t actually RACED a 10k during my Second Running Career. So whilst a PR is hopefully a given, the goal (until Monday) was 52:30.
But then came Monday and my last tempo run of the training cycle. I ran one mile warm up and then five tempo miles plus 0.2 for fun. And I stopped the clock at 51.47.
To add to the excitement, mile three was my fastest ever mile, my first and only ever sub-8 minute mile in 7.56. And although I was clearly working hard and it was tough, it wasn’t murderous. The Husband gave me a telling off when I told him about my sub-8 mile – he wants me to run carefully and protect my heart. But I honestly did run carefully and felt fine throughout.
I grinned like a crazy girl for about an hour afterwards, especially about that sub-8 mile. REALLY happy with that! But it also shifts the goalposts for Sunday, and my plan now looks like this.
B) Sub 52
C) 52.30 or below.
D) Don’t die.
I have a little playlist all sorted – lots of stuff from my Half Moon Bay playlist plus Chariots of Fire at the end to inspire me home! Cheese! I know (or am looking forward to meeting) a load of people doing it – Angela, Brianna, Juli, Alisyn, Paulette and maybe Layla? plus my friend David running his first ever 10k. The weather looks absolutely spot-on perfect. I’m really excited about it!
See you all on the other side!
