Today, Monday, marks the beginning of Crazy Season in the Ramsden household. In the next six weeks we have: a birthday, a birthday party, a trip to Tahoe, Thanksgiving, packing up the kitchen, a week in Colorado, Christmas shopping, Christmas and (most pressing) the UK postal deadlines. Phew!!!
I did however get a run in. You might remember that a few months ago, my friend Louise took me to her Yoga class as part of a Workout swap – I’d go and bend with her, she’d come trail running with me! Well on Saturday, it was Lou’s turn to try something new. We met very excitedly in Huddart Park, were joined by our friend Gladys and set off into the woods.
It’s impossible to run trails round here and not face the challenge of hills. I found the flattest route I could but it was still a bit hilly. We ran through the forest, chatting (to ward off mountain lions). We see each other a lot, but the conversations today, away from children and our weekly commitments, felt different. More personal. Sweeter. Funnier. We laughed a lot! We also squealed in slight panic when a Scooby-Doo-style scary creak came from one of the redwoods as we ran underneath it! Slight adrenaline burst after that!! We ran roughly 3.5 miles and got back to the car grinning and happy. Lou’s muttering something about doing it again! Win!
On Sunday, we went for a hike at Coyote Hills Park, a little park in the East Bay with three or four steep hills rising from the marshland in the Bay. It was a surprisingly lovely little park and we had a cracking hike – about 4 miles with some good hills and some great photo opportunities.
(Yeah, we all love that last shot).
Okay…let’s crack on with Birthday Week!
