This Week…Slacking and Yoga

Don’t you agree that the best week to suddenly have a slacking off period is peak week before your big half-marathon? You don’t? Because obviously I did.

Saturday saw the Point Pinole Half Marathon which was a lot of fun.

I then fully intended to have Sunday and maybe Monday off to rest. On Monday, I thought about running but decided to tidy the house instead.

Tuesday: 2 mile walk.

On Tuesday, I fully intended to run in the morning but 6am was so dark and my bed was so comfy that I turned over and went back to sleep. And then I spent the rest of the day regretting that decision and feeling really bad about myself. I did however accompany the Dude on a 2 mile bike trip. He wants to cycle to the house of an old lady we visit – she lives about 4 miles away so we’re in training.

Wednesday: 7.5 mile tempo run

After a few days slacking, I was fired up to run. I wanted to do seven miles broken down like this.    M1 – normal speed.   M2,3,4 – fast.     Mile 5 – normal.  Mile 6,7 – fast               So that’s what I did – wrapping it up with half a mile to cool down. It was HARD work. Seriously! My legs were done by mile 4! I had to stop at one point and just catch my breath and then delightedly stopped for a red light at mile 6 to do the same. But I was pleased with the results. 7 miles in 59.55 at 8.33 pace and 0.5 mile at 10.0 pace. At the same time, if I’m going to PR at Half Moon Bay next Sunday, I need to run 13.1 miles at pretty much that tempo pace. I’m not sure I have it in me…my confidence is all over the place !

Thursday: 2.5 mile walk

The Dude’s training continues. I got a decent little walk in there too.

Friday: BIG DAY!

My friend Lou and I are doing a workout swap. She would take me to yoga, I’m taking her trail running. So she got me a day pass in her fancy gym for a 6am yoga class. My first ever yoga class. I am VERY glad I’ve done a couple of Youtube yoga sessions or I would have been quite overwhelmed. As it was, it was quite daunting but I really enjoyed it. The teacher was great. She asked if anyone was brand new to yoga. I stuck up my hand. She smiled and said ‘Welcome. Just try and look like you know what you’re doing’. Immediate relax.

The class was 1 hr 15 long…that was a LONG time. My legs wobbled so hard during some poses that I almost fell over and I was by far the least bendy girl in the room. But I did really enjoy it and came out feeling really chilled and happy. And a little smug. Yoga Smug. It’s a phenomenon.

Believe it or not, I’d planned a 6 mile speedwork session for afterwards when the Dude was at pre-school. How naive can a girl be? Let’s just say I got the miles in but at a much gentler pace. 6 miles in 55.08 at 9.16 pace.

Have a great weekend, everyone. Drink some green tea 😉

Yay, you served your first yoga class! And you even enjoyed it!! 75 min classes are very intense — my hamstrings and glutes are usually obliterated the next day, so I can’t believe you went for a 6 mile run afterwards. Good for you!

As for HMB — I don’t think this week was slack at all. You had several good runs and 1 cross training session. Maybe not as much mileage as you wanted, but I think you’ll be in decent shape for the race next week. Good luck!

Yeah, yoga was okay! I can’t really justify the monthly fees for that class though, but I’ll def start looking for something cheaper!

Look for Groupon or Living Social deals – I’ve gotten a couple of bargains and it allows you to try the place out before committing.

I am not sure this can be totally classified as a slacker week- looks like you were kickin some butt in the speed department. Yoga smug- love it. I only ran today- and took the rest of the week off due to my back- now that is some slacking;).

      That’s healing…good excuse 🙂

Sounds like a pretty darn good week if you ask me! If it makes you feel better, I skipped my run yesterday bc we woke up to a heck of a storm while camping(: Pretty sure packing up a muddy campsite while chasing two little people (also covered in mud!) counts as cross-training!

    1. Cathryn says:

Yeah, I think so too. I don’t envy you camping in that rainstorm!
