This week…Mini-Taper!

It’s race weekend!

Tomorrow, I’m running the Point Pinole Half Marathon with Jen. I’m feeling fairly chilled about it – it was a last-minute-ish decision in order to run with a friend, I’m using it as a test run for Half Moon Bay on the 29th. Apparently it’s trail – well, unpaved with a little single track. I’ve not run there before so I’m looking forward to new routes. No major time expectations, just some bling expectations, some food expectations afterwards and some fun expectations!!

I had a mini-taper this week and it looked like this.

Friday: 4 easy miles

I meant to run my 6 mile tempo run but forgot to set the alarm so had to swap some runs around.

Saturday: 4.3 miles scorchio hike

So hot I had to hike in my sports bra. Most unladylike.

Sunday: 6 mile tempo run

Monday: 10.4 mile intervals.

Today was a logistical disaster. I meant to run 12 miles but was late for pre-school drop-off due to traffic. I drove to Half Moon Bay to escape the stifling heat, which was a wise move, but had to sacrifice two miles of my run to get back in time for the Dude. The weather was perfect – warm, sunny, fog. Bliss. The views were also spectacular. However I also managed to press ‘end run’ three times (!) on Nike Plus so I technically did three runs today. I alternated normal/faster miles and felt pretty good throughout. A lady cycled past me during a faster mile and said ‘Wow, you’re running faster than I can cycle’ which was technically incorrect because she was passing me…but it was incredibly sweet and ego-boosting! I also stopped for too many photos because frankly today was beautiful. I am getting very excited for the HMB Half!

Wednesday: 6 miles

I’ve decided to try and do most of my runs at a 1m normal/1m fast effort. I’m trying to get faster so it makes sense to practice running faster! Today was slightly overcast which was delicious and I ran along the lagoon with the sun sparkling on the water. Nice! 6 miles in 53 mins at 8.54 pace!

Thursday: More dreadful yoga on you-tube

That was it for the week!

And finally…if you’re in the market for a new blog, try this one. Just a Colorado Gal. Heather has just come back from a week pack-rafting in Alaska (yeah, I didn’t know either) and her photos are seriously incredible. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about being adventurous and how I’m NOT adventurous at the moment, so I’m pretty inspired so far!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Some cracking pictures! We’ve still got the warm weather, although I don’t think I’d use ‘scorchio’ to describe it – typical muggy conditions, so quite humid. Have unpacked the cold weather gear (thermals/hat/gloves/his-vis vest for the dark) but no call to use it just yet!
And exciting news – I have a job!!! Start with Ordnance Survey on 30th Sept – a relief and also exciting/scarey. Been a while since I’ve been the new girl! Enjoy your race/run this weekend! x

I’m jealous you can drive to HMB to run! (That would take me at least an hour each way.) At least it’s been getting cooler in the evenings, if you can pull off a run right before dinner or after your little one goes to bed! 🙂
