Feeling hot,hot, hot!

This weekend, Summer came to the Bay Area and it was HOT! It was lovely!!!

Having done my long run lastWednesday, the weekend’s runs were shorter and sweeter. Friday SHOULD have started with a tempo run. But I forgot to set the alarm the night before and didn’t have enough time, so I swapped my runs around and did my 4 easy miles!

Sunrise. Colours by God.

And on Sunday morning, I was up at the crack of dawn to get those pesky tempo miles in. It was a mixed bag. The first 5 miles were spot on, I was averaging an 8.37 pace. So I decided to blitz the last mile and see how fast I could run a mile. I stormed off at a 7.30 pace…and lasted about 0.2 of a mile before my legs and my lungs insisted I stopped…and then I staggered home. In total: 6 miles in 53 mins at a 8.48 pace. A waste of a good tempo.

And in other scenes this weekend:

…we had a very hot but very fun hike in Edgewood Park on Saturday. The Dude hiked 4.3 miles, he’s very slowly getting into this hiking malarky.

…the Dude followed his hike by his first tae-kwon-do lesson at a birthday party. May I present my son, the ninja.

…we had a very rare date night on Sunday night! We ended up going to my favourite place, Alice’s, in the evening for the first time. The vibe is VERY different and we loved sitting outside under the redwoods in the cool of the evening. And then we piled into the hot-tub!

Alice's - cool by night.

Ah, Alice’s. I’ve only been there once, for breakfast after a long run, and it was AWESOME. Glad you had a fun night!

Also, heartily approve of tae-kwon-do. 😉

I thought you would. He loved it!!! They also cut the birthday cake with a sword. Perfect! And you need to come and run trails with me and we’ll go to Alice’s for lunch. I adore it there.

Ran in HMB on Monday, photos going up tomorrow. Thought of you – it’s gorgeous there at the moment.

  3. We suddenly had some scorchers here too. Just when I got excited about colder running!

You guys get much hotter weather than we do – I can’t complain. But the weekend was Alabama-style!
