A week in my shoes…April 12th

The running bug bit hard this week – since last week’s stroller trail run, as I said in my last post. I’ve read blogs, visited a running store to buy a friend a present (managed to NOT buy anything for me), found some new local running Twitterers, watched little films…and even done some actual running! It’s been good.

Sunday   11 miles

Tuesday. 11.6 miles

Pre-school is back in business, so Runday Tuesday was also a go-er this week. Despite my run-buzz at the moment, the thought of running 12 miles was unattractive, so I promised myself that if, at a certain point, I still felt the same way, I could short-cut back to the car and call it a day. It was warm out today but not unbearable. I turned the music up, ran a new route and it wasn’t bad at all. The first half seemed to take FOREVER, the second half went much faster. And I got back to my car, parked at Safeway, and inhaled a diet coke. Recently I have found myself craving diet coke (and bagels) at the end of long runs. Nothing particularly healthy about the diet coke particularly, I need to snap out of that habit immediately. But anyway, a good day’s run. 11.6 miles in 1.49 at 9.22 pace.

Wednesday:  Jillian Michaels 30 day shred Level 2 

Thursday:  6 miles of ‘intervals/tempo/whatever’

Today’s run was supposed to be my treadmill intervals run but I woke to blue skies and couldn’t bear to stay inside. I did however do some kind of interval training…one mile warm up, one mile at a faster pace…and then the remainder of the run alternating decent stretches of normal/fast pace. I reckon each interval was about half a mile, but distance was determined by road junctions etc. Not very scientific but hard work. My legs ached today, they were tired. I was happy with the work I did but surprised the pace wasn’t a little faster, given the effort I felt like I was putting in. Oh well!                                              5.6 miles in 49.48 at 8.52 pace.

Today, I’m the very willing accomplice to my friend’s husband. He is taking my child for the day, I am taking his wife out for all kinds of exciting birthday things. I win!

    That random run is what I’d call a fartlek, and I think it’s perfectly normal to crave carbs after your run (like I wrote before on DM). Though I guess you could easily sub the diet coke with another sweet beverage that actually healthier, like a smoothie.

    Kind of. I’m @cathrynrunning but I rarely tweet anything, I just read other people’s interesting stuff. Do you tweet? I liked your DM idea of choosing another sweet drink – I finish my long runs on Tuesday at a Safeway and just need to move my hand three drinks to the right for a smoothie instead of a diet coke. Fartlek always makes me giggle. Sorry 😉
