A weekend off!

So this weekend, I ran a grand total of….no miles.

Nope, none. Nada. Zero. Nuffink, as the Dude says.  In fact, I only ran 7 miles total last week…and I loved it. I wanted an easy week after last week’s half-marathon, and at the weekend, even though I had 10 miles in the diary, I just decided to sleep in, chill out and not run. I don’t regret it all! It was fab. I love Easter so much…and I just enjoyed it.

On Saturday morning, the Husband and I did Jillian Michaels Level 2…it’s a flipping killer, sweat was dripping down our chins by the end. It was fab. And then we spent the rest of the morning hiking in a new park – Edgewood Park. The Dude was reluctant to hike, so we turned it into an Easter Egg hunt.  The Husband and I took it in turns to sprint ahead and drop eggs along the trail and then hide…then the Dude would run along the trail, pick them up and then make Hunger Games mockingjay calls in order to find the missing parent. We think he ran about a mile in total and we all loved it very much!

TeamRamsden after our little hike!

On Sunday, after church (Happy Easter, everyone), we went to a housewarming BBQ with some British friends. There was a little crowd of Brits there – we have no family on this continent, so we gathered together. We had an Easter Egg hunt in the garden and grilled burgers. I took my new, beloved mushroom burgers. It was a lot of fun.

Today is the first day of April. I remember the first day of March – I was 5lbs heavier, feeling sluggish, unfit and lazy so I launched Mad March Me. It’s been good. I set the target of running 120 miles. If I had run this weekend, I would have hit my target – however I ended up running 104 miles this month and I am happy with that! I ran my second ever fastest Half Marathon. I’m eating better. I lost those extra pounds and am so happy to be back at my happy weight. It’s been a cracking March and I relished my weekend chilling.

Finally…I made two soups this weekend and they were fab. I made Cate’s Red Lentil Soup  and the Post Punk Kitchen’s Black Bean and Quinoa soup. If you’re in a soupy mood, these are amazing! They are both quite spicy, just to warn you. Not Long-Run safe!

Which brings me on to April and my Active April resolutions.

* I want to run 100 miles.

* I have the Apple Hill 10k Trail Run at the end of the month which will be my first stroller race. I’d like to do it in under an hour.

* I’m also kind of itching to get a 10k PR for the year. My goal is sub 54 mins. I’m toying with the idea of finding a 10k to have a bash at this.

* I’m going to start using my Yoga groupon deal. This girl is not bendy.

* I want to do Jillian Level 2 twice weekly.

So it’s been a lovely weekend of relaxing…but training for the San Francisco 2nd Half Marathon, and hopefully a shiny new PR, starts tomorrow! Bring it on, puppies!

Ooh, I saw that PPK Black Bean and Quinoa recipe and thought it looked yummy – thanks for the 2nd opinion. I’m going to have to try that! As for a 10K, my friend Kate and I are both going for 10K PR’s on May 4th at the Brazen Western Pacific in Fremont. Care to join us? http://www.brazenracing.com/westernpacific.html

Yes I do! Thanks. We may be going on holiday that weekend so I’ve pencilled in the diary and once we know when/if/ever we’ll make it to HI or not, I’ll register!! Thank you for inviting me! I really fancy it.

Ooh, looks like it will be win-win either way. Though personally, I’d go for HI any day over a 10K! haha

A weekend off post-race is always lovely! Nice that it fell on Easter so you could really enjoy the holiday.

Beautiful trails! I wish I had some like that by me!

I run Edgwood Park quite often and love it. If it is distance you crave, there is a trail that runs west out of Edgewood that will get you to Crystal Springs Trail. Follow it far enough south and you end up in Huddart Park & the Phlegler Estates. AMAZING!
