So here we are…it’s race day on Sunday – the Oakland Half Marathon to be precise. These are my goals.
A) To finish. Oakland’s crime levels are stratospheric. I’d like not to die.
B) Sub-two. I would love to go sub-two again just to prove Healdsburg wasn’t a fluke.
I don’t THINK I’m in PR shape but I’ll go for it anyway!
This week has been fun. On Monday, this gentleman moved in for ten days whilst his Mum and Dad went to the UK.
Monty is very sweet, we love him. Well, Charlie doesn’t.
Having a dog around is a LOT of work. With absolutely no disrespect to Monty who has been as good as gold and a lot of fun, this week has confirmed that we are a cat-family. Need a poo? Go outside and do it yourself, Charlie. Need to stretch your paws? Go outside and do it yourself, Charlie.
Saturday: 8 blinding miles
Sunday: 4 sluggish miles
Tuesday: 13.1 miles
This week’s Runday Tuesday saw my final long run before Oakland. I ran an extended route of my hilly Preschool loop, but in reverse this time (ooh, exciting). I felt marginally stronger but was glad to finish! 13.1 miles in 2.4.00 at a 10.11 pace. I am really loving the opportunity to do long runs on a Tuesday in addition to weekend long runs. It’s such a treat!!
Friday: 6 easy miles
I meant to do this run on Thursday but ran out of day. So instead I ran this morning. 6.30am is now dark, how rude! I was a total hypochondriac in this run. My knee hurt, my throat hurt….I notched up all the ailments in that pre-race-drama way that we all do. (Don’t we? Just me?) . My throat still hurts a bit (we have preschool germs in the house this week) but it’ll be fine.
And that’s it. Now all I need to do is rest (yippeee), carb-load (yippee) and decide what to wear. Tomorrow is the Expo (prepare for a rant about expos on Monday…grrr)…and on Sunday, we race!
Oakland, see you in two sleeps!
