A day-trip to Paris

Well, Happy February 6th everybody! It’s my birthday!  I am even further from 21 than I was yesterday!!! I’m spending the day without my lovely Husband but with my parents, which is pretty special. And because it’s my birthday…here’s a very self-indulgent post which is TOTALLY not about running.

I went to Paris yesterday. For the day.

I am ever so slightly shame-faced about this – it’s a pretty decadent thing to do, both in terms of environmental impact and financially. In my defense, I adore France (as I’ve said before), I adore the French, their language and their baked goods and I live on the other side of the world. Opportunities to immerse myself in Frenchness are few and far between.  So I Carpéd the Diem to spend a day there. I cajoled my mother into coming, grabbed the Dude’s passport and off we went. The forecast was grim…rain all day, hail in the morning, thunder storms in the afternoon. In the end it was bitterly cold but dry all day!!! Hurrah!

Here are the photos.

Morning…up the Eiffel Tower

I crossed the world just for a decent pain au chocolat!!
Totally worth it…
First glimpse…bonjour!!!
Waiting for the lift to go up the Eiffel Tower.
Most excited.
At the top…brrr it was chilly
Carrousel with a view…
Amazing Art Deco House in the 7e
Amazing Art Deco House on Avenue Rapp
Slightly scary door
How much is that moggy in the window?
Paris, baby!
Cheese Shop to die for
Rue Cler, my favourite street in Paris

Lunch…my favourite café on my favourite street, Rue Cler.

Rue Cler
Du vin, du pain…just the cheese missing
Oooh, I’ve just been there!

Afternoon…Dude sleeping, Musée d’Orsay

Cafe at the Musée d’Orsay
Tell me…why do all the ladies have to be naked???
The men, they got to wear clothes! The ladies?? Nope.

Evening…mad dash back to the airport bus along the river…

Night falling over the Seine
Good night Paris
Thank you for a lovely day

Thanks for indulging me!!!

Happy belated birthday! What a great way to spend it. I have been to Paris one day- not long enough to eat all the amazing food I want to eat there (I am very food focused). I hope this year is a great one.

Thank you!! Yeah, it was a fab day out. One day isn’t long enough but it’s better than nothing!

  11. OMG!!!!! I lived a street from la rue Cler!!!! SERIOUSLY!! I know Café Central. That is sssooo funny! I was there the day you came. So, so funny! Maybe we saw each other in the street but we didn’t know each other at the time 🙂

Oh my word, I die a little. I love Cafe Central. I stayed just off Rue Cler every time I went to Paris, it felt like a little microcosm of Paris on one street! I really love the bakery just opposite Cafe Central as well – such great bread!! You lucky lucky girl!!!
