Music to run sub-two to…(maybe)

This week, I’ve been preparing for this week’s half marathon. Tomorrow I’ll talk about the running – today it’s all about one of the much more entertaining aspects of racing…the playlist.

Again, I make no excuses for my musical taste. Don’t come to me for cutting edge musical recommendations. Come to me for music you might enjoy. It’s all a bit random. I’d say ‘eclectic’ but that implies a sophistication that I know my musical taste doesn’t have. I’ve nicked a couple of recommendations (thanks Yo Momma) and I’ve been playing this list all week and I ADORE it! So…enjoy.

So, in a very particular order, this is what’s going to get me sub-two on Sunday.

  1. Boulevard of Broken Dreams.   Green Day.
  2. Top Gun (Anthem)                      Soundtrack
  3. Three Lions                                  Baddiel & Skinner
  4. You belong with me                   Taylor Swift
  5. Danger Zone                                Kenny Loggins (Still buzzing from Sunday)
  6. Before he cheats                          Carrie Underwood
  7. Take on me                                   A-Ha
  8. Barcelona                                      Freddie Mercury & Monserrat Caballe
  9. Gasolina                                        Reggaeton
  10. Moves like Jagger                        Maroon 5
  11. Amazing Love                               Run the Race
  12. Dies Irae: Mozart’s Reqiuem      Therion   (check out the remix, it’s AMAZING)
  13. Mighty to save                              Run the Race
  14. Do you hear the people sing?     Les Miserables soundtrack
  15. Seven Nation Army                      The White Stripes
  16. Nothing’s gonna stop us now      Starship
  17. Uprising                                          Muse
  18. Fighter                                            Christina Aguilera
  19. Bad Romance                                 Lady Gaga
  20. Resistance                                      Muse
  21. Lights                                              Ellie Goulding
  22. I gotta feeling                                Black Eyed Peas
  23. Womanizer                                    Britney
  24. Feeling Good                                 Muse
  25. Some Nights                                  Fun
  26. Hung Up                                         Madonna
  27. Call me maybe                              Carly Rae Jepson
  28. Single Ladies                                 Beyonce
  29. Don’t stop the music                    Rihanna
  30. Lose my breath                             Destiny’s Child
  31. Lose Yourself                                Eminem
  32. Right here, right now                  Fat Boy Slim

If you’re American, you may not know ‘Three Lions’ – it’s the song that gets the UK pumped up and confident that we’re going to win the football/soccer World Cup. Clearly it’s not that successful. But it does make me incredibly happy and energised!!

So that’s it. 2.1 hours of awesome music – I am SO excited about the music at least. I may not PR on Sunday but I’m going to rock the race, at least!!

Been getting some track ideas for my singing lessons, and finding examples of Belle Nuit (Tales of Hoffman) when I found a link to Freddie and Montserrat. Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck go up! What you need to do is have the ultimate ULTIMATE tune (whatever you choose that to be) that kicks in at 1.59, so a) when it starts and you can see the finish line, you know you’ve got 60 seconds to go for it, and b) you can power ballad your way over the finish line (bet you’ll be the only person singing out loud as you go over).
Kind of reminds of the time we were doing supervised revision with Mr Scrase and you started singing to something on your walkman and didn’t realise you were doing it out loud. He went MENTAL. Still makes me laugh now!

I LOVE the FM song SO much!! And oh I remember the Scrase moment…agh. How are you doing? When’s the performance, Maria?

In what (at the time) seemed a huge cock up, and now a god-send, the show has been postponed to 2nd Feb. Which is good, because we were SO not ready it was scarey. So we’ve decided to still make things awkward for ourselves by having a Christmas show instead – lots of White Christmas, Chestnuts roasting, Rudolphs etc going on every Tues evening! So new dates are 8th Dec for singalong, and 2nd Feb for showtime!

      • Cathryn says:

hey, I might even make show time in that case….dates still tbc but I would LOVE to come 😉

  2. You can do it! I’m so excited for your sub-2 attempt. And I will be stealing Three Lions — love it.

  3. Kristen says:

Good luck this weekend – love the playlist and that you put it in order. It’ll be like a choreographed play! But really sweaty.

Thanks for your comment, what a lovely surprise! Yeah, I’m a bit overly concerned with playlists and not enough about training 🙂
